Easy Review: That does so much more!

Jun 29, 2020

I wanted to share a very useful technique to build review into your day in a matter of fact manner. British Educator Charlotte Mason has some simple yet profound suggestions for mothers in her books and narration is something we have generously used.

It is such a natural way to review and it fits perfectly in the home setting. In fact my husband has been asking me to have them 'retell' for many years and he uses it quite generously without ever knowing that it could be used as a teaching tool.

"Can you tell me what you understood from the khutba?"

"How was your museum class? So what did you learn?"

"You built this? Mashallah, Can you tell me how you did it? How did you come up with this?"

You get the point!

In this video I shared this concept , how we use it and it's many benefits for us as a family. Though we will not really go into narration itself and how it is done. But here you will see how it can be applied.

Watch this shorter version of the session here. There is also a longer version of this video with Q & A and some book references to learn more about the Charlotte Mason Method on Youtube.

Let me know if you have any questions. We have modified it over time to keep up with it. It does take longer on some days especially when we do subjects like history but it is such a natural, effective way to review concepts and share knowledge with the family members. We also used it occasionally with our extended family members. The kids treat it as a 'share' instead of a test of learning.
